Hide and Go Seek!!
It’s not very often I get a request to photograph a cat – but when I do, I know it is going to be a exciting shoot!
When Bengy first arrived he was calm and quite happy to sit in his box. However that all changed when his owners tried to get him out of his happy place! That is when the hide and seek started.
The first place Bengy tried to hide was under the sofa in the reception – luckily he was slightly too big to fit underneath so there was no trouble trying to get him out.
After chatting to his owners for a few minutes about what they wanted from the shoot we all went into the studio for the start of the shoot (or should I say round 2 of hide and seek!!)
Bengy had a great time exploring all the new areas and making sure there was no nasty surprises lurking in the shadows. As the studio is one of the largest studios in the Midlands there was plenty of spaces to explore.
I always give the animals time to get relaxed in the studio – and then I start to set off the lights to see how the pet reacts. 90% of the time the pet is fine…. then we get the 10% who just hate them! The beep and the flash did not make Bengy happy at all! He suddenly shot behind the curtains in the black area of the studio and that was that! We then spent the next half an hour trying to coax him out of the curtains, even treats didn’t seem to tempt him.
After a while we did get some great shots. Using props like the bath tub and the box to sit him in kept him still for just enough time for me to grab some shots. We also got some lovely action shots as he darted across the white area searching for somewhere to hide again.
By the end of the shoot I had some brilliant images of Bengy and the clients went away very happy!
They always say never work with children and animals – but I say as long as you have got the patience and techniques you will always get good results!
